Famous confectionary store in Akasaka Mitsuke

Recommended by an adult book reader, I went to Shirotae in Akasaka, which is famous for its rare cheese cake.
I was expecting a larger size cake for about 500 yen, but the price was 250 yen for the smaller size.

There is a cafe space in the store where you can enjoy tea and cake.
I immediately had it with Assam tea at home, and it was delicious, with a slight sweetness to the refreshing cream cheese acidity!
The cake is light yet satisfying, so it is recommended for men as well.

The chocolate cake has a very smooth surface texture, and the inside is moist with the aroma of liquor rising up.
Rather than an elaborate French style, it has a royal taste similar to the sweets of famous long-established hotels in Japan.

If you happen to be in the Akasaka area, I recommend it as a souvenir!

As a side note, this plate has appeared many times in this photo shoot.
I’m sure many of you are familiar with this series of plates from Meissen, Germany, called “The Play of Waves.

A beautiful plate goes well with a delicious cake.
Although it is white porcelain, it has a slight bluish tinge, giving it a nuance similar to Chinese celadon.
Wedgwood in the U.K. and Noritake in Japan are often milky-white in color, and the color of the cheesecake is often overshadowed.

Most Shirotae cakes are small, so for a single cake, use a 14 to 18 cm plate.
For a single cake, a 14-18 cm plate is recommended, and for two cakes, a 18 cm plate is recommended.

Tea that goes well with Shirotae cheesecake

Assam tea goes well with this royal (let’s say, purely Japanese) cake.
The refreshing sourness of the cheese and the fine astringency of the Assam afterwards can enhance each other’s goodness.

If the cake is a dairy product like cheese, it is better not to add milk to bring out the best of the cake, so try enjoying it straight and unsweetened.
If the Assam tea is of high quality, it will have a gentle astringency like a fine Bordeaux wine without the unpleasant astringency.

Please enjoy your cheesecake with a delicious cup of tea.
